We make candles: that’s probably pretty clear at this point, but Charleson & Harlow is much more than that. We deal in experiences. Sure, we aim to make your home look and smell nicer than it currently does, but our primary focus is to provide you with a nostalgic experience.
Maybe it’s reminiscent of time spent at your grandparent’s house as a child, picking flowers with your mom in the garden, or hiking through your favourite valley. Or perchance it’s helping to instill or fulfill a longing feeling for a distant land. Travel is a cornerstone in our lives and our business philosophy, and as such we hope to invoke those feelings of wander and bliss that travel manages to capture in all of us. In times where travel isn’t an option, let our candles whisk you away.
And yet, they still look fantastic on your shelf: you're winning all around!
Our candles are made using the finest ingredients sourced domestically. The wax we stand by is a Canadian-grown and produced 100% pure soy wax. There are no additives or preservatives, it’s non-gmo, kosher-certified, paraben- and even gluten-free, if that’s your thing. With that said, as great as they may smell, and even though you probably could eat it, we strongly urge you to refrain: it WILL NOT taste the way it smells (we promise... both Jeff and Harlow can attest), and your body isn’t designed to process that amount of fat on it’s own.
Our wicks are an eco-friendly cotton, and are wax-coated which makes them quick and easy to light! They should be trimmed between burns to 1/8-1/4 inch in order to ensure maximum burn times.
All of our fragrance oils are skin-safe, as is our wax. These candles have a low melt-point, and as such will not burn the skin. Some of our fragrances are natural, and some synthetic, but all are phthalate- and paraben-free. None of our products, in their raw or finished states, have ever been tested on animals, though our candle mascot/namesake Frenchies would be happy to report the studio smells amazing at all times!
We use recyclable packaging and reuse packaging materials in our shipping boxes whenever possible. We are proud to produce a product that looks and smells great in any space, but that is also sustainable, and that makes us feel great.
All of our candles are made in small batches on a regular basis, to ensure you receive the freshest product. Don’t worry, you shouldn’t have to worry about your candle sitting on your shelf long enough for it to EVER lose its scent, but we’d rather provide you with the freshest product than to send you a candle that’s been sitting on our shelves for 3 months.
Our candles are fully assembled, poured, and packaged by hand; no robots, chimps, or children were utilized in the process, though our teenage daughters do like to indulge once in a while for extra spending money.
